Spend an autumn afternoon at the Vancouver Island University (VIU) campus in Nanaimo at our first DiscoverFest. This family-friendly event includes fun activities for kids of all ages. With face-painting, a pumpkin patch, an artisan market and exciting presentations, DiscoverFest has something for everyone.
Stroll the vendors market, take in a performance at the main stage, tour the campus and discover the wide areas of interest and expertise at VIU such as our Deep Bay Marine Research Field Station, our mobile mass spectrometry facility, plenty of hands-on activities and fascinating and fun five-minute lectures from our expert faculty.
DiscoverFest includes:
- a Community Stage featuring Raymond Salgado of Canada’s Got Talent and other local artists.
- a market featuring goods from VIU’s alumni and Indigenous partners
- Milner Gardens and Woodland plant sale
- Extreme Science show
- attend a recruitment presentation
- take a campus tour with a current VIU student
- 5-minute lectures series with a wide range of VIU’s passionate and engaging professors
- a pumpkin patch with pumpkins for purchase and free hot chocolate, cookie decorating and face-painting
- extended hours at the View Gallery and opportunities to watch and take part in an artist’s creation process
- snacks and delicious lunches for sale at the Main Cafeteria
