Applications for admission to Fall 2024 at BCIT opened on October 2, 2023 for most technology programs.

For more than 50 years, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has been training the experts, innovators, and professionals who shape our economy – across BC and around the world.

Through our unique applied education model, BCIT students gain the technical skills, real-world experience, and problem-solving ability needed to embrace complexity and lead change in a rapidly changing workforce. Our curriculum is developed through close consultation with industry and delivered by instructors who have direct, hands-on experience in their fields.  

BCIT programs and courses are delivered by our six Schools (School of Business & Media, School of Health Sciences, School of Computing & Academic Studies, School of Construction & the Environment, School of Energy, and School of Transportation) . Our faculty also work closely with industry, delivering training, providing expert advice and helping to bring ideas to market.

BCIT has world-class training facilities—many unique in Western Canada:

  • A 300,000 square-foot state-of-the-art Aerospace Technology Campus, featuring a fleet of 20 aircraft including a Boeing 737, and airport control tower simulation technology
  • A Marine Engine Room Simulator, which provides true-to-life training for marine engineers
  • The only Prosthetics and Orthotics training program in Western Canada
  • An automated manufacturing robotics lab
  • An interactive fire simulation theatre

BCIT is one of British Columbia’s largest post-secondary institutions with more than 48,000 students enrolled annually. BCIT has five [5] main campuses along with satellite programs province-wide.

Nearly 50,000 students:

  • 18,000+ full-time students
  • 30,000+ part-time students

 

  • Approximately 5,700 international students from close to 120 countries attended BCIT in 2018–19.
  • BCIT has been delivering its international diploma programs through more than 20 overseas partner institutions in South Korea, China, Brazil, Chile, and Vietnam to approximately 6,000 students in the past decade.

 

We’re proud to consistently provide our students with real-world skills and practical experience—so they’re work-ready from the day they graduate.

The median hourly wage is $32 for apprenticeship completers and $22 for graduates of certificate and diploma programs, and the median annual salary is $65,000 for graduates of degree programs.

BCIT provides the majority of apprenticeship training in the province of British Columbia. Over 1,200 complete their final apprenticeship level each year.

The BCIT Burnaby campus is home to hundreds of specialized learning spaces, including classrooms, shops, labs, simulators, broadcast studios, green roofs, energy grids, forests, and waterways.

Completed in the summer of 2022, BCIT’s Health Sciences Center provides a state-of-the-art home for progressive clinical education through sophisticated simulation, modern classroom technology, and inter-professional practice. Its design helps break down traditional learning silos to foster interdisciplinary learning.

Located at the heart of Vancouver’s business and tech core, the BCIT Downtown Campus is home to the state-of-the-art Technology Education and Collaboration (TEC) Hub, an innovative IT learning space.

The BCIT Marine Campus is the center of training for the maritime industry in Western Canada. Programs in navigation, marine engineering, seamanship, and maritime safety and security are offered at this campus. With bridge and engine room simulators and an indoor pool, students gain experience with realistic scenarios in a safe environment.

Our state-of-the-art 285,000-square-foot Aerospace Technology Campus is home to BCIT’s aerospace programs. The campus is centered on a 40,000-square-foot hangar housing BCIT’s fleet of light piston, turboprop, corporate, and jet transport aircraft, including light and medium helicopters.

BCIT’s Annacis Island Campus is located in Delta. The 142,000-square-foot facility is home to motive power programs offered by BCIT and Vancouver Community College. These programs train heavy-duty mechanics, transport trailer mechanics, diesel mechanics, commercial transportation mechanics, railway conductors and forklift operators.

English Proficiency Requirements

English requirements are program specific. English grades can vary from 50% to 73%.  Entry to competitive programs may require higher English grades.

Application Deadline

Applications open October 1st (or next business day) for technology programs; trades applications are open throughout the year. We recommend submitting your completed applications as soon as possible. Entrance Scholarships Deadline

BCIT Entrance Awards have two distinct deadlines that depend on when you begin your full-time studies at BCIT and the program you are registered in. The deadline for each BCIT Entrance Award is listed under each specific entrance award.

For awards with a singular April 15* deadline, you must commence your program between May 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025.

For awards with 2 deadlines, the following applies:

  • April 15, 2024* for programs starting between May and December 2024.
  • October 1, 2024* for program starting between January 2025 and April 2025.

First Year Residence Spots
Must be accepted into a full-time studies program at BCIT to be eligible to apply for residence.
Residence Options

Maquinna Residence is located on the BCIT Burnaby Campus, with 333 bedrooms in townhouse-style buildings available for full-time students. The Residence features private bedrooms with shared kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms and bathrooms, and is ideally located on the Burnaby campus, adjacent to the sports field and recreation facilities.

The complex incorporates seven low-rise, split-level buildings to create a village-like student community. Each of the houses contains four suites of twelve students, one Resident Advisor apartment and a laundry room.

Total Average Residence Cost
Average cost of $835 per month for full-time students in programs of 16 weeks or longer, plus Activity Fee and Parking [if available].. Damage deposit and first-month's rent required in advance as Room Deposit Fee.
