Royal Roads University is a public university with its main campus in Colwood, BC, in the Greater Victoria region. It is located on the grounds of the former Royal Roads Military College (RRMC) at Hatley Park National Historic Site on Vancouver Island. Following the decommissioning of RRMC in 1995, the government of British Columbia created Royal Roads University as a public university with an applied and professional degree-granting focus.

Royal Roads University maintains strong ties with the Canadian Forces and considers alumni of RRMC to be part of its broader alumni community. Royal Roads University has now graduated over 20,000 students in the fields of leadership, business, environment, communication, tourism, hospitality and social justice who are working in over 60 countries around the world.

Royal Roads University is a public university with its main campus in Colwood, British Columbia. Royal Roads leases the land from the Department of National Defence and assumes all stewardship responsibilities related to the site including the cost of site management, operations, the protection, preservation and restoration of heritage assets, which include all buildings on the site as well as many heritage gardens and educating the public about the site’s historic and natural attributes.

In some programs students can choose an international internship to experience the rich learning to be had being immersed in a different country and culture plus the incredible network of contacts that one can assemble through travel.

Basic Admissions Requirements

Admission to undergraduate degrees typically requires completion of a diploma or 60 credits of recognized academic courses. Some programs offer flexible options based on work and other experiences.


English Proficiency Requirements

All applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English speaking, listening, reading and writing by submission of an official English language proficiency score report which meets required minimum standards. Details on acceptable tests and standards are on the website.


Application Deadline

Deadlines vary by program and programs may fill in advance of the deadline. Students are encouraged to complete applications as early as possible. In order to review applications, the completed application form, fee(s), and official supporting documents are required.

Application Fee

A non-refundable application fee [currently $122 for undergraduate programs] is required for all applications. Applications submitted without the required application fee can only be kept for 30 calendar days, after which it will be cancelled. All applicants who have completed post-secondary education outside of Canada are also subject to an international credential evaluation.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted online. Meeting the admission requirements does not guarantee admission to a program of study. After your file is complete and all required documents have been received, your application will undergo a review to determine your admissibility. The application review process will not generally take more than 4-6 weeks but can vary for many reasons.

Residence Options

Royal Roads University offers convenient on-campus housing for students while on short-term residency. Choose from a variety of private single and double rooms or dormitory-style suites with shared washrooms, located in the heart of campus. Residence lounges include fridges, microwaves, coffee makers, toasters, kettles and cutlery. The nearby Habitat Café offers a variety of meals for purchase seven days a week.
