Today’s cutting-edge medical training technology is prepping students to work in the world of healthcare with (almost) real patients. At Vancouver Community College’s (VCC) innovative health simulation centre, students gain hands-on training in managing a wide range of realistic healthcare scenarios, including serious medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest.
Taught by expert instructors from the industry, VCC’s Nursing, Allied Health, and Dental programs provide students with the skills they need to enter the workforce. Simulation training is a core part of the learning experience in these programs. It uses responsive, computer-controlled manikins that breathe, talk, and can even react to treatment.
Providing a POV into working in the field, these lifelike patients allow students to hone skills they need when responding to emergency scenarios — from inserting IVs to performing CPR during a cardiac arrest.
Students also gain essential skills like patient rapport, professionalism, and confidence. Simulation-based healthcare education teaches students how to react effectively in the ever-changing environments often seen in medical settings.

Health science students at VCC gain invaluable hands-on training in a realistic, safe, and controlled environment without harmful outcomes. This helps students build their confidence and critical thinking – foundational skills that prepare them for success in the workforce.
By combining the benefits of hands-on, scenario-based exercises with classroom learning, VCC ensures that students are well-prepared for a career in healthcare.
