Royal Roads, Camosun College and Justice Institute of B.C. students will attend classes at the new five-storey John Horgan Campus, also known as Royal Roads University Langford.

A total of five organizations will be providing classes out of the campus, with Royal Roads University taking the lead in campus administration.

Royal Roads is offering upper-level classes for bachelor’s degrees in programs in tourism and hospitality management, business and environmental science, as well as certificates in applied environmental sciences, business and sustainability and social sciences.

Camosun College said it’s planning to offer diplomas in early learning and care, and IT, as well as certificates for health-care assistants at the John Horgan Campus this fall.

The University of Victoria, meanwhile, said it’s primarily sticking with continuing studies programs at the campus until it gets a handle on what it wants to do in Langford.

Jo-anne Clarke, dean of the division of continuing studies, said of the 18 evening and weekend courses UVic is offering at the campus this fall, only two can count towards a diploma.

UVic previously said it would have a two-year gateway program for computing-related degrees at the West Shore campus this fall.

Clarke said the university is considering offerings in engineering, education and teaching once the campus is fully up and running.

Sooke School District is also offering adult upgrading programs out of the campus.

The John Horgan Campus is expected to expand to 1,300 full-time students by 2035, with three more buildings planned for surrounding areas, including student housing and a performance theatre.

The campus has areas dedicated to counselling services, shower facilities, an academic help desk and a career centre, but no cafeteria. The campus is named for former B.C. premier John Horgan, who died last year. Horgan served as premier from 2017 to 2022, and as NDP leader from 2014 to 2022.
