Langara College has announced the launch of a new degree program. The Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics, the first-of-its kind degree from a college in British Columbia, builds on two existing Langara programs in the field: an Associate of Science Degree in Bioinformatics, and a Diploma in Bioinformatics.
Beginning in September 2020, the four-year program will teach students how to work with large biological data sets and develop skills to apply statistical tools for analysis. The program also offers an immersive co-operative education component that integrates academic studies with related, practical work experience. Students will work with industry partners, gain hands-on skills, and be well prepared for the job market.
Graduates from the program will be able to build their careers in industries such as health care, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sciences. Â Bioinformatics is a booming field in science and has endless possibilities, and the program has been designed specifically to ensure that students get plenty of industrial and actual hands-on experience before they graduate.
Applications for the Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics program, starting in September 2020, are currently being accepted.
