Langara College has announced the launch of a new degree program. The Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics, the first-of-its kind degree from a college in British Columbia, builds on two existing Langara programs in the field: an Associate of Science Degree in Bioinformatics, and a Diploma in Bioinformatics.

Beginning in September 2020, the four-year program will teach students how to work with large biological data sets and develop skills to apply statistical tools for analysis. The program also offers an immersive co-operative education component that integrates academic studies with related, practical work experience. Students will work with industry partners, gain hands-on skills, and be well prepared for the job market.

Graduates from the program will be able to build their careers in industries such as health care, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sciences.  Bioinformatics is a booming field in science and has endless possibilities, and the program has been designed specifically to ensure that students get plenty of industrial and actual hands-on experience before they graduate.

Applications for the Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics program, starting in September 2020, are currently being accepted.
